Higher education institutions could consult with employers to identify longer-term development needs that would be addressed through customized credential programs, which are then integrated with other employee-retention incentives. Learning methods based on integration with work activities would optimize relevance, add value for the employer and minimize overall cost.

One of the greatest challenges facing IT professional is their lack or little knowledge of the business of the organisations they work for. There is often a disconnect between IT and business. Companies should therefore educate IT professionals about their business,processes and challenges. They should sponsor relevant business courses for their IT professionals.They should encourage job rotations between the IT and various business departments(sales,marketing etc)

Companies should encourage,promote and sponsor relevant IT-related training,training,certification etc that match employees's interests with their strategic business goal(s). This should be a win-win deal that benefit the companies and their employees.

The Center could consult with business and education to promote understanding of IT pathways including concepts of career ladders, standardization of job titles, and skills assessments.

For people working in the IT area, establish criteria required to become a specialist in specific IT-related areas. This would enable people to know what education and experience background is required for specialization in areas such as network specialist, security specialist, compliance specialist, etc. The criteria and guidelines can be compiled based on interaction with employers as well as educators.

Companies should encourage their employees to suggest IT-related ideas,and projects that enhance their competitive advantage. Companies should appoint an interdepartmental committee to evaluate and select submitted ideas,or projects in terms of the following:Feasibility;cost;business applicability;revenue generation potential;cost reduction potential.Employee(s) who submit winning ideas/projects should be recognized and rewarded.

Develop an IT leadership training program to better integrate IT personnel skills to business needs. This could also include mentoring and well defined internal career ladders.
