Higher education institutions and employers could develop a "shared-position" model that would allow individuals to teach and work part time with the added benefit of providing a direct connection for student project work at the company. An industry instructor, if teaching the right course, could engage the students as project assistants for real-world applications.

Make sure the soon to exit staff feel valued during the process and appreciated for the work they have done over the years.
